99 Days Movement Is Important

100 Days of...Move your body

Today, the 9th day of January I decided to keep writing. A few years ago I had my first broken bone, my foot.

I took my feet for granted. After I had my cast removed I made it a point to use my feet more.

I started small. Taking the stairs, opting to walk, bike commute, going for a hike, etc.

Day 99 - Movement is Important

Move about every day.

I think about movement in two buckets. Active movement versus passive movement.

For active movement, my primary activity is running. I also enjoy biking, hiking, and skiing. Each year, I try to balance training for a specific goal and overall maintenance.

Additionally, I try my best to include stretching and mobility exercises alongside more run-centric strength training.

For passive movement, I’ve tried to structure my day-to-day activities that “force me” to move more than a usual method would. If it is less than a mile, I’m walking. Can I turn this into a running errand?

Escalator + two stairs at a time is an airport superpower for catching a flight.

I went for my first run in a week still in recovery mode from being sick. Some nice mile progressions. I felt comfortable going out after a chill hike and bike over the weekend.

I have two more runs and another adventure on the docket for the week.

I’m always on the lookout for more reasons to move about. What are some more unique ways you like moving about?
